Investigation Included Sayreville Detective

Authorities said the investigation began after the Old Bridge Police Department received a tip from a concerned citizen alleging that Coposky was attempting to meet children online for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.

The investigation was conducted by:

  • Detective Ryan Hall (Old Bridge Police)
  • Detective Christopher Raub (Sayreville Police)
  • Detective Ken McGarry of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit

Officials said the coordinated effort led to criminal charges.

Arrest and Charges

Coposky was arrested without incident at his home in Old Bridge by members of the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, with assistance from both Old Bridge and Sayreville police.

He has been charged with:

  • Third-degree Attempt to Endanger the Welfare of a Child

Authorities said he is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility pending a pre-trial detention hearing.

Authorities Warn Against Vigilante Interference

During the investigation, officials said a self-identified vigilante group independently contacted the suspect and publicly shared information about the encounter.

Law enforcement stated that these actions interfered with and impeded the active investigation, limiting investigators’ ability to gather evidence and potentially pursue additional charges.

Officials strongly cautioned against this type of involvement, noting that:

  • It can compromise sensitive investigations
  • It may hinder the pursuit of justice
  • It can impact the ability to fully hold individuals accountable

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact:

  • Old Bridge Police Department: 732-721-4000
  • Sayreville Police Department: 732-727-4444
  • Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office: 732-745-3140

As with all criminal cases, the charges against Coposky are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
