NYC Subway Train Struck, Killed Sayreville War Memorial High School Graduate

A 24-year-old Sayreville man who graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School was one of two New Jersey residents killed by a subway train in Lower Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Navam Kaul of Sayreville and Malaika Chitre of the Dayton section of South Brunswick were struck by a southbound No. 4 train at the Spring Street station shortly after 3 a.m. on Sept. 13, according to Patch.

Both Were 24 Years Old

Police said Kaul and Chitre were on the tracks when the train entered the station at approximately 3:14 a.m. The train operator was unable to stop before striking them.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are continuing to investigate how the two ended up on the tracks. No official determination about the circumstances leading to the incident had been announced as of Tuesday.

Kaul Graduated From Sayreville War Memorial In 2020

Kaul was a member of the Sayreville War Memorial High School Class of 2020 and later attended Rutgers Business School, according to Patch.

He was working as a financial data analyst for Bloomberg at the time of his death, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Chitre attended South Brunswick High School and later studied at Rutgers University. She was working for Acadia Pharmaceuticals at the time of her death.

Patch described Kaul and Chitre as friends. Both were 24 years old and had attended Rutgers.

The investigation into their deaths remains ongoing.
