SAYREVILLE — Kennedy Park was packed with music fans Saturday night as residents gathered for a Michael Jackson tribute concert hosted by the Sayreville Cultural Arts Committee.
The event featured performer Michael Trapson, whose tribute to the King of Pop drew a large crowd to the park and kicked off the committee’s summer event season.
According to Cultural Arts Committee Chair Sharon Rodas, organizers estimate between 1,200 and 1,500 people attended the event.
A Crowd Filled With Michael Jackson Fans
Throughout the evening, many attendees embraced the theme of the event by wearing Michael Jackson-inspired outfits and accessories.
According to Rodas, chants of “Michael! Michael! Michael!” could be heard throughout the crowd, while children gathered near the stage singing along to many of the performer’s songs.
Families, friends, and neighbors filled Kennedy Park as attendees enjoyed the music and community atmosphere.
Michael Trapson Headlines The Evening
The evening’s main attraction was Michael Trapson, a longtime Michael Jackson tribute performer who traveled from the Philadelphia area for the event.
Prior to the tribute performance, attendees were also entertained by Sayreville’s own DJ Jarrett Lampkin, who performed a pre-show set and later returned during portions of the evening’s entertainment.
Several food vendors were also on site throughout the event.
Cultural Arts Committee Thanks Community Partners
Following the event, Rodas praised the support of several organizations that helped make the evening possible.
She specifically thanked the Sayreville Parks Department, Recreation Department, Sayreville Police Department, and Borough Council for their assistance.
“What took place at Kennedy Park was far more than a concert,” Rodas said in a recap following the event. “Families, neighbors, and friends gathered as one community, united by music, memories, and pure joy.”
The Michael Jackson tribute served as the Cultural Arts Committee’s major kickoff event for its summer programming, with additional community events expected throughout the season.
