SAYREVILLE, NJ — Approximately 700 people gathered at Kennedy Park Wednesday night as the Sayreville Cultural Arts Committee hosted its first outdoor Movie Night, featuring a showing of Disney’s Cars.

The event, held in partnership with the Sayreville Recreation Department’s Classic Car Show, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the animated film and brought together families for an evening of live entertainment, food and activities before the movie began.

According to Cultural Arts Committee member Sharon Pawelczyk Rodas, organizers weren’t sure what to expect when they paired the classic car show with the outdoor movie.

“We truly didn’t know what to expect, but partnering with the Recreation Department’s Classic Car Show turned out to be the perfect way to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Disney’s Cars,” Pawelczyk Rodas said.

Throughout the evening, families spread blankets and lawn chairs across Kennedy Park while children took part in face painting and other activities before the movie started.

Food trucks remained busy throughout the event, and Pawelczyk Rodas said the face painting line stayed about 20 people deep for much of the night.

She estimated that approximately 700 people attended.

“With approximately 700 people in attendance, Sayreville once again showed what an amazing community we have,” Pawelczyk Rodas said.

Pawelczyk Rodas also thanked the volunteers, Recreation Department and everyone who helped make the event possible.

“Cultural Arts is so grateful for everyone’s help and support and is proud to have hosted another successful event under the stars,” she said.

The outdoor movie marked the first Movie Night hosted by the Sayreville Cultural Arts Committee and Recreation Department at Kennedy Park.
