Sunshine Biscuit Plan Moves Forward After Sayreville Planning Board Review

SAYREVILLE, NJ — Plans for the former Sunshine Biscuit property have cleared another step in the borough’s redevelopment process.

The Sayreville Planning Board unanimously determined on Sept. 16 that an amended redevelopment plan for the property fits with the borough’s long-term vision for how land should be used and developed.

What Does That Mean?

The borough’s Master Plan serves as a general guide for future growth, including where different types of development should be located.

The Planning Board’s vote found that the proposed changes for the former Sunshine Biscuit site do not conflict with those broader goals.

The decision does not mean construction can begin. It also does not approve a particular building or business for the property.

Instead, the vote allows the amended redevelopment plan to continue through the municipal approval process.

What Is Covered By The Plan?

Known formally as the Hercules Redevelopment Plan II, the plan covers several properties associated with the former Sunshine Biscuit industrial complex, including land near Bordentown Avenue and Journey Mill Road.

Redevelopment plans establish what types of uses may be permitted and provide rules that future projects must follow.

Any specific development proposed for the property must still undergo the required reviews and receive applicable municipal and state approvals.
