A Sayreville man was arrested Tuesday morning following a reported altercation involving a school bus driver at the intersection of Lakeview Drive and Solook Drive, according to the Sayreville Police Department.
Police said officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 8:41 a.m. after receiving reports of a dispute involving a parent and a school bus driver.
When officers arrived, they encountered 31-year-old Roshan Howington of Sayreville standing in front of a school bus carrying several children, police said.
According to the Sayreville Police Department, the investigation determined the incident began after a child attempted to board the bus at what police described as an improper stop.
Police said the bus driver denied the child entry onto the bus, after which Howington allegedly began shouting at the driver and obstructing the bus from continuing its route.
Howington was subsequently arrested and charged with:
- Interference with transportation
- Obstruction of the administration of law or other governmental function
- Assault
Authorities said no children on the bus were injured during the incident, and the bus was able to safely continue its route to school.
In a statement, the Sayreville Police Department said incidents involving school children can create concern within the community and emphasized its commitment to responding quickly to situations involving public safety.
The charges are accusations, and Howington is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
