SAYREVILLE, NJ — Looking for something to do without traveling far this weekend?
Sayreville has a particularly busy first weekend of October, with two major community celebrations taking over Kennedy Park on consecutive days, along with live music, activities for younger children and other events around town.
Festival of Lights is scheduled for Saturday, followed Sunday by Sayreville Day, which was postponed from the previous weekend because of the weather forecast.
Here’s what’s happening around Sayreville from Friday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 4.
👨👩👧👦 For Families: Festival Of Lights
When: Saturday, Oct. 3, 3 to 9 p.m.
Where: Kennedy Park
Cost: Free
Festival of Lights returns to Kennedy Park Saturday for an afternoon and evening of cultural performances, food, vendors, activities and fireworks.
The celebration will feature live cultural performances, music and dancing, international food vendors, arts and crafts, specialty vendors and activities for families.
Fireworks are scheduled to close out the celebration.
The rain date is Oct. 10.
🎈 For Kids And Parents: Sayreville Day
When: Sunday, Oct. 4, noon to 4 p.m.
Where: Kennedy Park
Sayreville Day gets a second chance this weekend.
The annual community celebration was originally scheduled for Sept. 27 but was postponed because of the weather forecast. It has been rescheduled for Sunday afternoon at Kennedy Park.
The event will include inflatables and face painting, live music and entertainment, food and dessert trucks and local businesses and community organizations.
That means Kennedy Park will be busy on both days of the weekend, with Festival of Lights Saturday followed by Sayreville Day Sunday.
🛝 For Parents With Younger Kids: Little Kids Playtime
When: Friday, Oct. 2, 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Where: Kennedy Park
Parents with younger children have an option to get the weekend started a little early.
Sayreville Recreation’s Little Kids Playtime is scheduled for Friday morning at Kennedy Park from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
🎸 For Teens And Music Fans: Soccer Mommy And Snail Mail
When: Friday, Oct. 2
Doors: 6 p.m.
Show: 7 p.m.
Where: Starland Ballroom, 570 Jernee Mill Road
Admission: Ticketed event, all ages
Music fans can head to Starland Ballroom Friday night for Soccer Mommy and Snail Mail, with Brennan Wedl also on the bill.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with the show scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The concert is open to all ages.
🎧 For Adults: Wildlife Wednesday Reunion
When: Saturday, Oct. 3
Show: 8 p.m.
Where: Starland Ballroom, 570 Jernee Mill Road
Admission: Ticketed event, 21 and older
Starland Ballroom has another event Saturday night for the 21-and-older crowd.
The Wildlife Wednesday Reunion featuring Manny The Greek, DJ Unique and Richie Santana is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
📅 A Busy Weekend In Sayreville
For residents looking for the biggest community gatherings, Kennedy Park will be the place to be Saturday and Sunday.
Festival of Lights fills the park Saturday afternoon and evening before the rescheduled Sayreville Day brings another community celebration to the park Sunday.
With outdoor events on the schedule, residents should check with event organizers before heading out in case weather or other circumstances lead to last-minute changes.
