SAYREVILLE, NJ — A piece of American history is coming to life in Sayreville next month, as residents are invited to step back in time for a unique, interactive look at the women who helped shape the nation.
The Sayreville Historical Society will host “Remembering the Ladies” on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Sayreville Active Adult Center — offering a presentation that blends history, storytelling, and live performance.
🇺🇸 Abigail Adams Takes Center Stage
The evening will feature historian and performer Carol Simon Levin, who will portray Abigail Adams — a key voice for women’s rights during the founding of the United States.
Adams is widely known for urging her husband, John Adams, to “remember the ladies” in 1776 — a message that highlighted the lack of political rights for women at the time.
Through this portrayal, attendees will hear directly from “Abigail Adams” as she reflects on the early days of the country and the role women played — and often fought to have — in shaping it.

📜 From the Founding Era to the 21st Century
According to event details, the program will go beyond the Revolutionary era, connecting past to present through key moments in the fight for women’s rights.
Topics are expected to include:
- Dolley Madison
- The Seneca Falls Convention of 1848
- The ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920
- Continued efforts to expand women’s rights into modern times
The program highlights how women across generations contributed to political, social, and economic progress in the United States.
