Captain America, U.S. Marines And Local History Come Together For Sayreville’s 150th Birthday

SAYREVILLE, NJ — Sayreville marked its 150th birthday with an evening that brought together local history, military participation, food and a superhero movie.
Residents gathered at Burke’s Park on Saturday, Aug. 8, for Patriotic Night, a community event that concluded with an outdoor screening of Captain America: The First Avenger.
The celebration was organized through a collaboration involving the Sayreville Cultural Arts Committee and Sayreville Historical Society.
A Mini Museum Brought Sayreville’s History To The Park
The Sayreville Historical Society created a pop-up mini museum that gave visitors an opportunity to explore pieces of the borough’s history during its 150th anniversary year.
The historical display was one part of an evening designed to combine Sayreville’s past with a community celebration in the park.
“Tonight was about more than an event,” Cultural Arts Committee member Sharon Rodas said. “The love and pride for our town could truly be felt throughout Burke’s Park.”
U.S. Marines Joined The Celebration
Members of the U.S. Marines also visited the event, spoke with those in attendance and participated in activities that included a pull-up challenge.
The Marines distributed gifts, while additional items were donated by the United States Air Force.
Six food trucks were also on hand during the evening, giving attendees several options before the movie began.
Several Local Groups Helped Organize The Event
Rodas credited Greg Cuneo, Chris Cuneo and Nancy Sedlack for helping organize the celebration. She said the group also worked with Frank Terzino Sr. and Heather to put the event together.
Patriotic Night was part of Sayreville’s broader Cultural Arts schedule, which has brought outdoor movies, concerts and themed community events to parks across the borough throughout the summer.
The evening concluded with the Captain America screening and a birthday celebration recognizing Sayreville’s 150th year.
